Award-Winning Cities

MAGC Awards
The Minnesota Association of Government Communicators (MAGC) sponsors the Northern Lights Contest annually to recognize outstanding work in government communications. Cities that received Northern Lights awards in 2011 were: Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Golden Valley, Independence, Maple Plain, Minneapolis, Plymouth, Roseville, St. Louis Park, St. Paul, Savage, and Woodbury.

Ultimate Fishing Town USA
The City of Baudette won third place in the Ultimate Fishing Town USA contest, winning $2,500 in prize money. Baudette received almost 27,000 of the more than 1 million votes cast in the contest. The World Fishing Network’s Ultimate Fishing Town USA was presented by Eagle Claw. Baudette competed with 300 communities from across the country. Two New York cities—Roscoe and Waddington—took first and second places. Heather Eason Pilkington, who submitted the nomination for Baudette, said, “Baudette is a part of Lake of the Woods County, which happens to be ‘The Walleye Capital of the World.’ Lake of the Woods is a massive multi-species fishery that offers world-class fishing year-round.”

Public Works Leader
Mike Eastling, P.E., director of public works with the City of Richfield, was named one of the Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year by the American Public Works Association. The leaders are selected by a committee of peers for their career‐long professionalism, expertise, service and personal dedication to improving the quality of life in the communities they serve.
